RISE OF READY-WEAR EXPORT IN ANKARA
URGE PROJECT OVERSEAS BOARD ACTIVITY IN LONDON
9–13 FEBRUARY 2019

Ankara Chamber of Industry (ASO) and INPPES carried out its first overseas activity with the participation of 13 cluster member companies in the scope of the cluster project called the Rise of Ready-Wear Export in Ankara under the Declaration No. 2010/8 issued by the Ministry of Trade titled ”Supporting The Development of International Competitiveness” (URGE) in 9–13 February 2019 in London.

ASO cluster member companies participated as project stakeholders in the board were:
Çözgü Textile Construction Tourism and Food Industry and Trade Limited Company, Seçil Ready-Wear Skirt Industry and Trade Limited Company, İyce Textile Industry and Trade Limited Company, Esswaap – Hakçı Ready-Wear and Textile Items Trade Limited Company, Modailgi Ready-Wear Manufacture Industry and Trade Limited Company, Mateks Apparel Trade Limited Company, Şelale Textile Ready-Wear and Construction Industry and Trade Limited Company, Selen Apparel Industry and Trade Limited Company, Sarah Ready-Wear Construction Textile Food and Furniture Industry and Trade Limited Company, Tuğba Leather and Ready-Wear Manufacture and Trade Limited Company, Gözde Murat Textile Industry and Trade Limited Company, Nihan Apparel Industry and Trade Limited Company, and Tığ Tricot Company.

The delegation visited “Pure London 2019” which is considered one of the leading textile fairs in the world, stopped by booths in the fair all day and viewed the products compatible with the industry and latest trends in the scope of the event on Sunday 10 February 2019. After the booth visits, the delegation visited Selfrıdges Department Store in Oxford Street, in which the most important brands in London are located, known as the largest wholesale store in the UK and checked out prices and models.

A matching organization was held in the meeting room reserved for the board in Pure London fair area on Monday 11 February 2019, thus the companies had a chance to meet and make contact with buyers came to the fair in order to develop business collaborations. They had 126 one-on-one meetings with 57 different companies in total.

The delegation visited Turkish Commercial Counsellor’s Office and had a collective meeting with Head Counsellor Mustafa Süleyman BEŞLİ and Vice Head Counsellor Ahmet Enes TEKCAN on Tuesday 12 February 2019. Following the meeting concerning the trade in textile industry between Turkey and the UK and the commercial volume between the two countries, the board visited Turkish Trade Centre (TTC) in London. TTC Country Director Dilara YARDIMCI gave detailed information to the board members about the operations and processes that help conduct an industry-focused business. Right after the TTC visit, the delegation visited the headquarters of WGSN Fashion Trend Forecasting & Analytics which is considered a global leader with 40,000 users in 87 countries. There they listened to the presentation about business conditions and membership services prepared specially for the board by WGSN representatives and made a tour of the office. The delegation visited the stores of world-famous brands in Oxford Street to view their collections afterwards.

The delegation had a meeting with and received information about the processes from Trigon Select representatives in the scope of the Apparel Supplier Performance Evaluation and Introduction Program for International Apparel Federation (IAF) on Wednesday 13 February 2019. Following the meeting, the delegation visited the store of “NU Fashion” which is an established brand in the UK and received information from the store manager Can Demir about retailing and industrial advantages and disadvantages in the UK. Later, the delegation visited the headquarters of “Select Fashion” which has 200 stores across the UK as the last activity.
